We’ll run you through the application requirements, and then you’ll be prompted to create an account in SCOPE, the UBC Science Co-op Information System.
Application Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Major in Mathematics, Major in Mathematical Sciences or one of combined majors with Mathematics (BA or BSc). Note: Students pursuing a major in unrelated discipline with a minor in Mathematics are not eligible.
- Have at least 27 credits remaining of your graduation requirement at the time of application
- Have a minimum average of around B- (68%)
- In process or have taken the following courses (or equivalent ones): *
- BSc Year 2 students: MATH 221, MATH 210 (or CPSC 210), STAT 200 (for Mathematical Sciences only).
- BSc Year 3 students: MATH 307, 340
- BA students: MATH 221, CPSC 210, ECON 325, ECON 326, ECON 323 (optional)
- Demonstrated excellent communications skills, leadership and maturity
- Demonstrated interest in your chosen field
- Be flexible and willing to accept a work placement outside the Lower Mainland
- Math grades need to be above class average
*The following courses are highly recommended: CPSC 210, 213, 221, 304, 310, 313, STAT 305, 306, 344, 404.
Note: Completion of at least one technical project (academic/ personal/ Hackathon) is highly recommended.

Admission Process:
- Applications are accepted via Scope by a specified deadline. *
- Applications are reviewed after the deadline and assessed based on the criteria above
- Shortlisted candidates are invited to intake interviews
- Official offers to join Science Co-op are announced (May for Year 2 Admission, January for Year 3 Admission)
*Note: Please ensure that you apply in the respective admission cycle based on your current year. Students in Year 2 that haven’t met year promotion criteria but are meeting co-op admission criteria for 3rd year are eligible to apply under Year 3 admission cycle.
