Cognitive Systems (COGS - Computational Intelligence and Design stream ONLY) students under the Faculty of Science follow the Computer Science Co-op program schedule. In addition to the traditional positions in business applications, COGS students can explore areas such as artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, robotics, and usability. You will acquire at least 16 months of paid work experience. There are work opportunities in the local market as well as overseas. Students interested in the Co-op Option in the Cognition and Brain stream should apply through the Behavioural Neuroscience / COGS - Brain & Cognition option.

Application Requirements

Cognitive Systems Co-op Applicants must:

  • Have and maintain a minimum average of B- (68%)
  • Have a minimum of 30 credits remaining in your degree, excluding the current term (at the time of application)
  • Be a full time student, majoring in COGS, or in the process of declaring COGS, as a major in the computational stream
  • Have completed CPSC 110 and are in the process of completing CPSC 121 and CPSC 210 (or have completed transfer equivalents)
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, and a responsible, mature attitude
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, interest in gaining computer skills outside of class, time management and teamwork skills
  • Be flexible and willing to accept a work placement outside the Vancouver area
